Abstract

The integration of ICT to enhance the learning experience of students in schools is still low although many studies show that principals as leaders practice high technological leadership. This concept paper study aims to discuss the real challenges that affect the use of ICT in teaching and learning in schools. The study design is qualitative descriptive by using systematic interview and survey methods. A total of four school staff, namely Headmaster, smart teacher, technician and regular academic teacher from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Pekan Tebong, Melaka were interviewed. The TPACK model (Koehler & Mishra 2008) and a combination of the ISTE Technology Leadership Model (2009) and Anderson and Dexter (2005) were used. The findings of the study found that principals 'technology leadership practices are not determinants to the level of ICT use by teachers but factors such as teachers' readiness with skills and knowledge, teaching experience, administrator support and infrastructure needs play a key role. Therefore, teachers must always work hand in hand with school administrators to ensure the high use of technology among school children by making improvements.
