Abstract
This concept paper aims to discuss the challenges and practices of managing change in schools. This paper is based on Michael Fullan's Theory and Kotter's Eight Step Change Model. The findings of previous studies shows that there is a significant relationship between principals competencies and practice of managing change at the school level. Apart from that, this concept paper is also expected to have implications for the Malaysian Education Blueprint (PPPM), which is to place high-performing leadership in schools. Training related to change management can be multiplied to increase the level of principals competency. The ministry need’s to emphasise process focused outcomes, enhance coordination between divisions and improve the gap between planning and delivery needs.Systematic planning and collaborative culture can reduce the gap of change failure. In conclusion, the challenges in change must be faced by the principals systematically in the practice of managing change at the school level.
