Abstract

Understanding of emotions and beliefs, trust in change is crucial. The purpose of this concept paper is to discuss aspects of emotions and beliefs as barriers in organizational change in institutions of higher learning and strategic communication practices in managing those emotions and beliefs. The findings of previous studies found that emotions and levels of trust among academic staff determine acceptance and opposition to university mergers. Effective communication initiatives have a significant relationship with the level of trust and emotion among staff involved in the process of organizational change at the institute level. The results of the discussion in this concept paper are expected to provide feedback to change managers to identify and manage emotions and beliefs among staff through strategic communication practices. In conclusion, the practice of strategic communication by change managers plays a role as a factor that influences the emotions and beliefs among staff to support organizational change at the university level.
