Abstract

"Program Guru Penyayang" is one of the programmes implemented by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) through the Policy of Caring Teacher Practice introduced in 2012. The concept of caring teacher indicates how a teacher concerns about his or her students' need (every child matters) by showing love and being friendly, concerned, courteous, respectful, cheerful, thoughtful and patient. This programme has brought a positive impact on students because they feel loved, needed and appreciated apart from their existence of being noticed by teachers which have successfully improved students' attitude. With this regard, the "Program Guru Penyayang" (e-SAYANG) is proposed in order to foster the elements of caring teachers that mainly aims to groups of students who involved in vandalism and playing truant through virtual approach. This study was carried out to identify the feasibility of "Program Guru Penyayang" (e-SAYANG) among lower secondary school students with disciplinary problems in Putrajaya. This study evaluates five features of feasibility, namely the features of fulfilling the MOE's aspirations, practical, feasible, viable and sustainable. The study was conducted quantitatively by distributing questionnaire to 31 teachers in schools in Putrajaya.  Data collection was gathered during the period of movement control order (MCO) due to the Covid-19 outbreak with the presence of teachers at home. The results showed that the mean score for the five features of feasibility was high. This shows that this program can be taken into account to be implemented in Malaysia. However, views from various parties are highly recommended so that its implementation is in line with the National Education Philosophy.
